SEGOVIA

Segovia, Spain

Segovia is historical city in central Spain’s Castile and León region, 54-miles northwest of Madrid. The town is renowned for its well-preserved Roman aqueduct, the medieval Alcázar castle, and its historic old town, all considered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Segovia boasts a rich history marked by Roman, Moorish, and Christian influences, making it a popular day trip destination from Madrid due to its stunning architecture and unique blend of historical periods. The famous medieval fortress, Alcázar of Segovia, served as the inspiration behind Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle. With 167 arches, the Aqueduct of Segovia is considered to be one of the most important legacies of the Roman Empire in Spain. It was built with solid blocks of stone and no mortar and extends over 10 kilometres before reaching the city – dividing it in two, with the Plaza del Azoguejo on one side, and the Plaza de la Artillería on the other. The Cathedral of Segovia, also known as the “grand dame” of cathedrals, stands in the Plaza Mayor and was the last cathedral of the late Gothic style in Spain.
