Situated on the River Thames in southeast England, London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. It is the largest city in the country and in Western Europe, and forms a major global center for culture, finance, and business. Renowned for its rich history, London boasts many iconic landmarks and attractions such as Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, the London Eye, and Piccadilly Circus to name a few. Despite a post-Brexit exodus of stock listings from the London Stock Exchange, London remains one of the world’s largest financial centers. It also hosts Europe’s largest concentration of higher education institutions, some of which are amongst the highest-ranked academic institutions in the world. London is one of the most visited cities in Europe and has the world’s busiest city airport system, as well as the oldest rapid transit system (the London Underground).
