Walking the Streets of Vienna
Vienna developed from early Celtic and Roman settlements into a Medieval and Baroque city, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It played an essential role as a leading European music centre, from the great age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century. The five km “Ring” is a boulevard that surrounds the city center and is home to Vienna’s most majestic palaces and monuments, including the Opera House, Parliament, City Hall and numerous museums. The Vienna State Opera house is world renowned with its neo-renaissance exterior and opulent interior. You can also visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) and climb one of its towers. Other attractions include the neoclassical Parliament, the Burgtheater, and City Hall. Vienna is also known as the home of classical music, and is a great place to enjoy the works of composers like Mozart and Beethoven in one of the city’s concert venues.
